Prescription sunglasses are therefore indispensable, especially when driving.

Sunglasses with prescription lenses also protect against harmful UV radiation and prevent damage to the eye. Many sunglasses can now be customised with prescription lenses. This means that the sunglasses with the optical lenses look the same as the original sunglasses without prescription.

What do I need to consider when buying prescription sunglasses?

When buying prescription sunglasses, the following key criteria must be taken into account to ensure both optimum functionality and protection:

• UV protection

• Tint level

• CE test mark
  Check the quality by looking for the CE mark on the inside of the temples, which confirms compliance with European standards. Sunglasses with the CE mark offer sufficient UV protection, which means they meet the minimum requirements. However, the accuracy of this information is not independently verified and the mark can easily be falsified. Your optician will be able to help and advise you.
  
  
• Size and fit
  Make sure that the sunglasses fit perfectly, are as close to the eye as possible and provide sufficient coverage. The eyes should be fully protected, at least up to the eyebrows and to the side of the face.
  
  
• Glazing options
  Not all sunglasses can be glazed. Make sure that the lenses are not too large and that the frame is not too curved. The material must also be suitable for glazing.
  
  

Recommendation: Have your prescription checked again before buying your prescription sunglasses. Minor changes in vision can easily be overlooked and should be corrected in good time to ensure optimum vision.
